amazon Lovers - Jia Peng Fang

Why are the sounds he produces so BIG? Everytime I come in contact with Jia Peng-Fang's music, this thought (this sense of wonder) gets stronger. Shall I compare him to a big oak tree that has grown its roots deep into the earth for a few thousand years? The trunk is sturdy and thick and tough. The branches grow thick and the leaves make delicate and subtle rustling sounds when the wind blows. The tree gently enfolds us as we go through endless changes that toss us this way and that as it stands tall into the heavens, embracing us in its compassion. I feel this firm and heart warming magnanimity in Jia Peng Fang.

This has been an unforgettable year for Jia Peng-Fang. He played the theme song of the major film by the director Zhang Yimou. During a break from this work, he made his appearance on the NHK TV show, "Top Runner", a certain recognition of his talent. He also released his long awaited "Best Album".

However the highlight of all the recordings must be the "Lovers" (for the film of the same name, known elsewhere as the "House of Flying Daggers"). His music was used effectively in a scene when the hearts of Zhang Ziyi and Kaneshiro Takeshi connect for the first time. This time the music was arranged by Haruki Mino who plays the piano in this album. It is different in taste from the magnificent orchestra version. It is a more compact, classical version style of chamber music.
