"BONTEN" has many meanings but generally speaking, in Buddhist terminology, it points to the most supreme deity of the Heavens. We chose this name because our aim is to express the colorful and heavenly world view that we hold through our music. Since our debut at the Daikyosai Festival held in Takanosu, Akita Prefecture, August of 2000, we have mainly performed live on stage. Our performances are of the traditional Japanese Wadaiko style though we take particular care to compose our own original music and to express the individual style and energy of our drummers. Our aim is to communicate this to our audience and to share “the joy of being alive to the fullest“.
As we talk to you about what we are like and what’s attractive about our music, we feel strongly that we want you to see our live stage. But then as we continue to do more live concerts, we get more and more requests for CD releases. So in producing this CD, we tried to recreate the sounds of a live performance and to make it into something that could be enjoyed by people who had never been to our concerts. I am sure you will enjoy the new world of BONTEN which is a bit different from our usual live stage. Lastly, I would like to express my great appreciation to our producer Mr. Yoshioka for patiently incorporating my requests and Mr Takita for recording Wadaiko sounds which are so close to the live performance. Also let me say thanks to all the members of our staff.
